Are You Making It Hard To Be A Well-Paid Health & Fitness Professional? 3 Gut Checks Inside

You have your license to teach Zumba® and / or your certificates to teach all the hottest fitness formats. Sprinkle in that group ex certification, CPR / First Aid and possibly personal trainer, nutrition as well.

You work your ass off learning everything there is to know to teach an amazing class … and you've taught one amazing class after another. But some of your classes have been whomp whomp too.

You can not stop thinking about all those little things you need to do in order to keep your fitness business going … marketing, advertising, practicing, the details with maintaining your space, how to get more peeps in the door, the latest thing you're going to do, am I good enough to be successful? …

These thoughts of yours are running through your head while you are driving your kids to school (what did you say honey?), Or making dinner (at the kitchen counter with your mind a million miles away), or washing your hair in the shower .. or putting veggies in your cart at the grocery store.

But there is something missing .

You are doing everything “right”.

You are following the advice that was given to you in all your different certification and continuing education courses.

You believe in what you are doing and you're super passionate about it.

You're a good person and you work hard.

So, why does it feel like such a struggle?

You are so busy, trying to juggle your fitness business with your personal life and the other paying jobs you have.

Being a full-time health & fitness professional is not happening, which is why you are dropped in so many directions.

You want a never ending stream of happy clients who are getting crazy results and who schedule their life around working with you (sorry Doctor, that's my Zumba® day!).

You want to solely do health & fitness as your job, which really is your passion and purpose.

You want to use your expertise and passion for health & fitness to create a better life for yourself – have more control and freedom over your schedule and your lifestyle.

You CAN have those things. But let's do a GUT CHECK first so you can get real with yourself.

Many fitness instructors feel like frauds – we call it “fitness fraud”. Feeling like a fraud can be described as “a high-achieving individual marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and a persistent fear of being exposed as a fraud.”

What do I mean by that? In our industry, a health & fitness professional who feels like a fraud is overweight, underweight because of body image issues, battling food addictions and unhealthy eating habits, not practicing the healthy lifestyle that you preach, and not feeling like you are a modeling a good example of a healthy person with a healthy lifestyle (not walking the walk or talking the talk).

In other words, you are hitting the drive-through in a frazzled mess after you teach your fitness classes and preach to your peeps about drinking water and taking care of their bodies, yet you're sucking down the sugary drinks and cocktail bevvies.

First of all, we are all human. Just because we look at someone who looks “big” does not mean they were not over 300 pounds the year before and have actually lost a ton of weight!

Embrace the journey you are on and share your miles along the way. You are not going to be perfect all the time.

#bossqueen Advice: If you're feeling like a health & fitness fraud it's time for you to stop and go within. Ask yourself WHY this is happening to you. What are you really looking for when you self sabotage? WHAT ARE YOU really need?

Then, take action. Purchase that health & fitness program you've been eyeing. Hire a coach. Put yourself first.

Having a big heart and loving to serve people is a pre-requisite if you want to be a successful health & fitness professional. However, if you want to have a thriving health & fitness business, you need to set your Mother Teresa avatar next and get real with that it's going to take for you to make some money.

You need to love business. Embrace the fact that you have to smart and savvy marketing and advertising skills. Sharpen your leadership and your people skills, because business is no longer “just about business”, it's very personal too.

At the end of the day, your bottom line that is going to make you money is if you are leading a vibe tribe – this is my term for your “niche” or your clients and future clients.

#bossqueen Advice: Sit down and answer these questions honestly.

Are you serving your vibe tribe in ways they can not get from other health & fitness professionals that may be your competition?

Are you managing your day well enough to be a #bossqueen or are you just treading water, responding to the needs of everyone and everything around you and never getting ahead?

If your answers are no, then you need to get someone else's perspective, such as a professional or coach who knows how to help you focus and create an intelligent, highly strategic plan of action.

Limiting beliefs are beliefs we hold in our subconscious mind which constrain our lives and have far reaching consequences. They are toxic to your life and your business causing self sabotage and negative thinking which results into negative decisions, bad behaviors, and feelings of sadness, anger, and depression.

All of us are programmed with negative beliefs which run our lives. They began from the moment we were born (some people even believe that programming started pre-conception and during gestation) and continued on during our childhood based on the experiences we had and the relationships we formed.

By the time you completed about 7 years old, all of your subconscious beliefs about who you are, the world, your relationship with yourself, others, money, success, food, safety, sex, love, spirituality, work, etc. were programmed.

Unfortunately, many of us still operate from that negative, primitive programming.

#bossqueen Advice: If you are working your butt off, doing everything “they” tell you to do and still not experiencing the success you deserve and desire, then negative subconscious programming could be at play and you need an operating system update!

Some people have success with meditation, affirmations, positive thinking, and / or reading personal development. Those are all great forms of helping you create self awareness and become a better, more successful person in life and in business.

Personally, my method of choice is PSYCH-K®. It's a technique to access your subconscious mind and transform negative beliefs that are controlling your life into positive, self enhancing beliefs.

Getting The Best Fitness Assistance

Most personal trainers are dedicated to helping their clients make goals. They know the right types of exercises and planning to help you get stronger, to cut fat, and to lose weight. The type of program they design for you will be based on your overall goals and your current fitness level. If you have any restrictions, they will help you work around them.

Yet there can be many differences among personal trainers. You do not want your time and money to be wasted. It is important to verify they have the credentials you seek. Ask about their education and their experience. Compare what is offered before you select someone to help you with your fitness goals.

Do not be intimidated because that is only going to hold you back. They are professionals with the right techniques and information to help you succeed. Your workout efforts can be wasted if you are not working the right way and the right types of exercises. You do not want to risk getting hurt either. With an expert in your corner, you can see results and feel better than you have been!

You are not going to like the personality of all personal trainers. Some are too nice and you need someone to motivate you. Others are like a drill sergeant and you may hate to be treated like that. Find someone with a personality you can connect with. You should not be intimidated by them but you should feel driven and able to learn from them.

Do they focus on you when you talk to them? You do not want to hire one of the personal trainers who is easily distracted. They need to give you their full attention during the training session. They need to share examples with you, show you how to do exercises, and answer your questions. If they are not willing to do so, do not hire them!

What do you Get?

What is being offered by various personal trainers can clearly vary. Do not assume you know, ask! You should have detailed information about how many sessions you are signing up for and the duration of each session. You may have to pay a price per session or get a package with an overall price for all the sessions that are included.

Find out the reputation of various personal trainers before you sign up with one. They should be fully committed to helping you grow from your current fitness level to where you want to be. By the same token, you need to be fully committed too. Show up on time for your sessions and be ready to work hard. Give it your best and continue to work outside of those sessions too.

The overall cost of personal trainers also depends on who you hire, the duration of the sessions, and how many sessions. Find out what that cost is going to be in advance so there are not any surprises. You may be thinking you can not afford to pay someone for such services but it is more cost efficient than you think. It could have the push you need to get results!

As you compare prices and offers, you will find a few of the personal trainers rise to the top of your list. Spend some time talking to them and exploring what they offer. Some may offer a free consultation session where you can see what they are all about before you commit to working with them. It needs to be an excellent experience from the very start.

Affording A Trainer

Perhaps you have often wished you had a personal trainer but you figured you could not afford it. Such trainers though are out there to help everyone, not just the rich and famous. They will take the time to learn about you, to create a great workout program for you, and to motivate you. Working with them will be challenging but it will be well worth it.

Now is the time to start looking for a personal trainer who can help you get the results you want. Time is going to pass by, and you can not regret taking action or you can make an effort to get the body you want. Looking your best is going to boost your confidence. Being healthy is going to cut your risk of serious health problems in the future too.

Finding a Professional

Take your time finding a professional because you want someone with experience. However, you also want someone you can connect well with. You do not want to be nervous or uneasy around them. You need to be able to talk to them, to ask them questions, and willing to listen to what they share with you.

Various gyms in your area can help you to find a personal trainer. You can also talk to friends or family who may have one. They may be able to refer you to someone they enjoyed working with. If they are still working with that trainer, they can tell you why they like doing so.

You can also search online to find a personal trainer who can help you with the results you seek. Reviews online can be useful to help you find out about the experiences other people just like you had with that particular trainer.

Evaluating the Cost

The cost of a personal trainer will vary based on who you hire, how often you train with them, and the duration of the sessions. It is important to compare prices as well as what you will get in return. Make sure the value you get in exchange is exceptional. You want the investment of your time and money to really pay off!

Getting the Money

If you can not put the cost of a personal trainer into your budget, find other ways to get the money. Can you work a few extra shifts per month to earn the extra money? Can you sell items you no longer need around the house to pay for it? Perhaps you can take on extra side jobs so you can earn extra cash.

You may find you can cut out some of the wants from your budget to make it work. For example, cut down on going out to eat and going to the movies. Make great meals at home and rent movies. If you buy coffee each morning or lunch at the office, make your own coffee and take your lunch.

Doing so can help you to free up some money to spend on getting that trainer paid for. It all comes down to finding a way to make it work in your schedule and with your budget. Most people find getting help with their workout needs make a huge difference in how they look and how they feel.

It also helps them to have more confidence, to sleep better, and their mood improvements. Now is the perfect time to start looking around and allowing it to all come together. Do not drag your feet and let more time slip by before you get it in motion. There are plenty of possibilities!

All of this is important because your body is unique. They need to find what will work for you to do your goals.

Communication and Connection

When it comes to personal training, you need to work with someone you trust to help you get results. You need to be comfortable around them and communicate well with them. You need to feel a connection where you are both on the same track for your needs. You may not always like what they share with you, and when that occurs you can question it.

Asking them why they are recommending something does make a difference. Once you know the reason behind it, you may be motivated to continue with it. If something just does not click though, speak up and let them know. They are professionals and they are able to handle just about any issue you can throw their way.

You may have to start with very short sessions while engaged in personal training. If you have not been working out much or you have health concerns, this is going to be common. Do not get discouraged though as you have to start somewhere. Work hard although to see improvements and to continue challenging your mind and your body.

Over time, the sessions can be longer in duration. It is important to find a time that works well for you and the trainer so you can get the job done. Try to carve out the same time each day you plan to meet so it becomes a habit.

The cost often depends on the frequency of sessions and the duration of them. Do not say you can not afford a trainer though. It is far less than paying for expensive medical care due to poor health. You just can not put a price tag on a good quality of life.

Setting Goals

Work with them to set up goals. With personal training, they should be very specific with a date. For example, you may say you wish to lose 40 pounds and you will do so 1 pound a week for the next 40 weeks. That is 10 months for you to get it done. That time is going to pass and you can reach your target, stay the same weight, or add-on more. What do you choose?

They can help you to set up goals that are possible so you do not set yourself up to fail. You did not put that wait on overnight and it is not going to come off that soon. In fact, it takes longer to take it off than it did to pack it on. With personal training, you can be successful!

Many people find that they can not stick with it alone because they are not sure what to do or how to do it. When you have someone to cheer you on, to push you, and to help you create the right plan then it does matter. It all falls into place and you are the winner!

One On One Help Can Motivate You To Stay Active

Connecting with the best personal trainer can help you to get motivated and to stay motivated. You may think now it is hopeless to do your goals. You do not even know where to start. Maybe you gave up because your efforts were not giving you the results you were after.

Clean Slate

Now is the time to change your mindset and to clean the slate. Forget about what has taken place before. Forget about the failures and the claim and focus on a better outcome this time. With the best personal trainer, you will have someone on your side that can help you create a plan of action.

Create Time

Take a good look at your schedule to find out when you can meet with the best personal trainer. Make a plan to meet at least four days per week. If you can do more that is great but if you have a business schedule that is a good place to start. A time earlier in the day is best so you are less likely to cancel.

It also helps you to feel great all day long, knowing you successfully completed your workout session that day. It can help you to have more energy, to improve your mood, and to help you make better choices when it comes to what you will eat the rest of the day.

Workout Sessions

The best personal trainer is going to help you to create workout sessions that challenge you. They will take your overall physical condition and your current level of fitness into consideration. They will talk to you about your goals so they can design a customized plan for you. If you would like to lose weight, the workouts will be different than if you need toning.

They should help you to find forms of exercise that you love too. When you make that connection, you will look forward to meeting with them. If you hate what you are doing, it becomes very easy to find excuses and not to follow through. Be willing to try new forms of exercise. You may like them more than you imagined.

Along with your workout sessions, you need to think about your diet. Reducing your intake of sugar is important. Giving your body enough fuel for workouts often requires smaller meals often. It also requires increasing your intake of protein. The best personal trainer should be able to help you with changing your diet so you can reach our goals successfully.

At the very least, they should give you a referral to a nutritionist or other specialist who can help. If you find your diet is at the core of your weight issues or not getting results from your workouts, you need to pursue this. Otherwise, you are sabotaging your own efforts.

At regular intervals, you should work with your best personal trainer to discuss your progress. This evaluation is a time to look at your strengths and your weaker areas. It may be necessary to tweak your plans to continue to strive towards your goals. As your fitness level improves and you see the results you are after, it will be exciting and stimulating.

Make sure you ask questions and you give your opinion. They may be the expert but you know what you can do and how far to push your body. Be honest with yourself and give it 100%. At the end of the day, you are the only one you are accountable to. Having a trainer does help but they can not force you to take part if your mind is not set on seeing some positive changes.

Personal Trainers

We hear of celebrities and sportspeople having their own personal trainers. On the lighter side, rumor mills are all agog when a film star is seen in public with his or her personal trainer with speculations about their 'dating' and spending time together filling the gossip columns! These trainers are of both genders; women have also stepped into this once all-male bastion and shaking up the health and fitness industry like never before.

Recent news about the UC Berkeley's personal trainer still continues in the same vein concerning his alleged closeness with the university's Chancellor and his wife that has included unexplained spending and favors relating undue sports facility membership grants.

These are certified fitness professionals who provide instruction and prescribe exercises to achieve fitness for general health as well as for specific goals such as weight loss, muscle building, resistance training etc and for excellence in sporting activity. Personal trainers are very often involved in setting nutritional guidelines as well for their clients to achieve set goals, monitor prescribed activities and give necessary feedback. There are several instances where former sportspeople and athletes have bought to become personal trainers once their own sport playing days are over. For former boxers and wrestlers, there are many opportunities to not only provide professional expertise and advice to clients but also take on roles as 'bodyguards'.

These trainers are not limited to any location and may work in homes, offices, fitness facilities, health clubs and outdoors. They can also be involved in specific sports activities such as tennis, football, cricket, swimming, and many others and can very well be specialists in certain types of training. Even in community gyms a personal trainer can be present to recommend and suggest exercise patterns, diets and assist the general public in their fitness appraises.

Over the years, these trainers have come to be more involved in the psychological, philosophical and spiritual aspects of a person's wellbeing in addition to exercise and training patterns. This has led to a kind of open debate about whether or not they are qualified to handle these aspects and if these should fit within the scope of their practice.

Accreditation for personal training is a process that provides a 'certificate of competency' to an individual to practice as a personal trainer. Certification processes and standards typically vary from country to country.

In the US for instance, there are literally hundreds of personal training certificates but only those accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies are held good in many instances.

What To Look For With A Trainer?

The idea of a trainer to help you with your fitness goals is exciting. However, you want to take your time to make sure you get someone who is passionate and helpful. They need to be an expert and to be committed to helping you get results. Knowing what to look for can help you with finding the perfect match.

Do not be in a rush when it comes to personal fitness trainers. You are not going to be happy with someone coercing you do to exercises you do not want to be part of. You are not going to stick with it if the times are not compatible with your schedule. With so many options out there, do not limit yourself.

Expertise and Experience

Ask plenty of questions when you search for personal fitness trainers. It is important to find out what experience they have and their areas of ability. They should be skilled in what you need such as muscle-building or weight loss. You need to feel confident they can create a program for you that are realistic and will help you to get results.

If they work for a well-known, reputable fitness center, that is very encouraging. Still, you should ask the company about their hiring requirements. You need to know you will be well taken care of. You need to know the time and money you invest is not going to be wasted.

Personal fitness trainers should take the time to make it challenging and fun for you. If the workouts are too easy, you will get bored and not benefit from them. If they are too difficult, you will feel overwhelmed and inadequate. They need to check your progress and increase the level of difficulty at regular intervals as your abilities improve.

You need to feel comfortable talking to the person you will work with. Communication is essential for you to help from the connection. You are not going to do well working out with someone who makes you nervous or uncomfortable. Some people find it easier to have personal fitness trainers who are the same gender as they are.

For others it does not matter but if you have a preference, let it be known. You should feel comfortable sharing with them what you would like to carry out and what you are worried about. Make sure you share with them your desired outcomes and any challenges you feel hold you back.

For example, if you have a bad knee or a bad back, they need to know. They can take those limitations into consideration when they help with your customized plan. They may include plenty of low impact exercises to help you get stronger and to avoid causing more pain where you already have some concerns.

Time is a common reason so many people do not work out. You need to look for personal fitness trainers with a flexible schedule to meet your needs. Perhaps you can work out early in the morning. You may need to do it in the afternoon or the evening. It needs to fit your schedule well.

Of course you need to make working out and fitness a priority. If you have too much on your agenda, you will sabotage your own efforts. You need to carve out time for yourself and for this important goal. Do not change those plans unless an emergency comes up.

You may be surprised at how affordable it is for personal fitness trainers. The cost can vary by place and by provider. Ask about the cost so you know what to expect. The amount of time they will spend with you is often going to influence the cost. The more time you work with them though, the better your results will be!

5 Reasons A Trainer Can Help To Motivate You

Getting yourself fit can prove to be a challenge. Yet you can make it happen! Sadly, many of us do not have the right mindset or the right workout program to get it all done. We also do not have the best eating habits. Losing weight and getting into shape requires dedication and a holistic approach.

With personal trainers, you will have help to motivate you. Studies show the results are better for the long-term when you have expert help. Here are 5 reasons a trainer can help to motivate you.

Customized Plan of Action

A common mistake is just diving in to get fit. Many people are very excited about it but within a short period, they give up and go back to their old habits. They may have pushed too hard or they did not carve out time.

Personal trainers are going to help you create a plan of action for the long-term. They will take into account your current fitness level and your goals. You may wish to lose weight or you may want to get toned. Perhaps you would like to run a marathon next year and need more conditioning and endurance.

They can also discuss with you what you like and what you do not. Exercising should not be a punishment. A common pitfall is forcing yourself to take part in workouts that you do not enjoy. A trainer though is going to motivate you through encouraging you to take part in forms of exercise you do enjoy. Then you will look forward to the sessions and not avoiding them.

Personal trainers will also talk to you about your overall health and your eating habits. They can help you with meal planning so you are giving your body what you need. Changing what you consume means you do not go hungry but you cut the intake of empty calories.

Challenge you

As your fitness improvements, you can take on more challenging workout sessions. The goal should be to help you continue to move forward. Not only in terms of time spent working out but in what you carry out at each session. Personal trainers can help you focus and to continue to challenge yourself.

It does not matter where you start, only that you keep moving forward. They will encourage you to get a few more minutes of cardio or to complete a few more reps. All of this is building up your strength and your endurance.

Show you

Working out correctly is important. Too often, injuries occur because a person does not know the right way to do the movements for a given exercise. Personal trainers will take the time to show you the proper form. Remembering to bend the knees, lift with your legs and not the back, and to warm up before you work out all make a difference.

They will also be there to spot you so you do not take on too much weight at once. They will show you the correct way to use machines and to add / remove weight. They are going to encourage you to be safe every step of the way.

When you work with personal trainers, you have more accountability. You can not just make an excuse and not show up for a session. They are going to follow-up with you and get you back on track. When you are not accountable to anyone but yourself, it is easier to blow off a workout because no one else will even know.

A trainer is going to be very encouraging, and that motivates you to continue. They will help you to focus on what you have achieved and not on how far you still need to go. They will help you to keep track of the small victories along the way. Each of them will be a stepping stone on your way to reaching your last fitness goals!

A Mother’s Point Of View On Personal Training

Having a coach also increases your accountability. When you have someone who will be waiting for you at the gym, when you have someone who is as invested in your success as you are, it can be fairly difficult to miss a workout. And when things get tough in the long run, your coach can give you words of encouragement that can drive you past your plateau. If you are a busy mom, your personal trainer understands that time is your greatest asset. He knows how to maximize each training session and get the most out of each of these in order to help you achieve the body that you desire.
